美國棒球作家協會昨天公布年度最有價值球員，美聯天使隊楚奧特生涯第二度獲獎，國聯小熊隊布萊恩則成為大聯盟史上第四位連兩年先後拿下新人王、MVP的球員。
廿四歲的布萊恩，大聯盟兩年資歷，去年先拿下新人王，今年整季一百五十五場出賽、敲出卅九發全壘打、一百○二分打點，是小熊拿下世界大賽冠軍的功臣之一。
布萊恩擊敗國民隊墨菲、道奇隊席格，為小熊隊史第十位拿下MVP的球員，也是繼一九九八年索沙後，再有小熊球員獲選；連兩年接連拿下新人王、MVP，則是瑞普肯、哈沃德、派卓亞後的大聯盟第四人。
布萊恩表示，其實沒有把MVP當作今年的目標，跟著球隊一起努力，在守備上用心，打擊上有所發揮，盡自己最大的努力為球隊貢獻，能跟著球隊拿下暌違一○八年的世界大賽冠軍，布萊恩直呼，「這是目前為止，生命中最棒的一年」。
他期許自己做到謙遜，將功勞歸給隊友瑞佐，瑞佐得分排名第四，但布萊恩表示，隊友間互相扶持，自己才能打出今年的好成績，「如果沒有他，我不可能有這樣的球季」。
天使隊今年沒能打入季後賽，但楚奧特獲得十九張第一名票，總分三百五十六分擊敗紅襪隊貝茲、太空人隊亞土維，成為繼二○○三年A-Rod之後，美聯首位球隊未打入季後賽、卻拿下MVP的球員。
儘管天使隊成績不佳，但楚奧特以MVP期許自己，「我每年都告訴自己要成為聯盟中最好的球員」，這也是他繼二○一四年後，再度獲獎。
